I have nursed for over 35 years. It is an integral part of my soul.  I have seen myself as a helper, a healer, a mother, a soul holder, a helper to the next life and an earth angel whose role it was to say a prayer for little new babies born through caesarian, and just a nurse.

The nurses role through history has been one fraught with danger. Nurses and midwives have birthed children through the ages. We have healed Kings and Queens.  We have touched the poor and aided the wealthy. We have been abused and accused of witchcraft. These days, we are fodder and dispensable. With corporate taking over medicine and healthcare, where will we end up? There are plenty of nurses, we are replaceable…but are there and are we?

Research now shows that most young people will have 7 different careers in their lifetime. I only ever wanted to be a nurse.
However, under the umbrella of nursing, I have worked in aged care, maternity, palliative care, medical nursing, theatre, recovery, workplace health and safety and finally cosmetic dermatology.

Nurses can aim for the sky, but we need to start working as a team, as a whole.  We are a very special profession. Not everyone can be a nurse, we possess skills not for the faint hearted.  Being a nurse is one of the most important aspects of my life and something I am hugely proud of.

That’s why I started the Podcast: Tenderness for Nurses.  It is honest conversations around nursing, women, men, life, death and medicine. I chat with nurses, patients, doctors, psychologists and so many more, around issues that I believe to impact Nurses.

I am always open to suggestions, topics and conversation.  This is what we need. Open and honest conversations about what is impacting us as nurses.
